Derelick (RIP)
1 May 1957 to 16 Aug 2021
It was sad to hear of the passing of Derek (Derelick) Miller on the 16th August 2021 in the Philippines.
He had been feeling poorly and suddenly took a bad turn.
Derelick, from Anchorage, Alaska, was in his teen years a classical guitarist and was so good, he won a scholarship to Hawaii Music University. While he was there, they discovered he had an amazing baritone voice and spent time and voice lessons to teach him how to sing opera. Not to be, but he did become Pattaya's first DJ, and had the best radio station, eagerly anticipated by the whole of the English-speaking community.
He was also a very active PH3 hasher in the early days, with his first run #9 on the 28th June 1984 (which had a total of 5 runners) and completed 156 runs.

He was a co-owner of the B52 hotel, in Soi 12, which was also used as a hash happy hour bar from run #147 16th March 1986 until 1989, when it was demolished to make way for a condominium. The B52, besides having a swimming pool and many rooms, known as 'bunks for drunks", and was one of many great hash bars at that time.
At Riyadh Military Hospital
He did not attend PH3 in later years due to work commitments. First at Saint Mary's Hospital from 1995 till 2006. Then at Riyadh Military Hospital in Saudi Arabia until 2019, when he then retired.
During this latter period in 2014, he did relocate to Subic Bay in the Philippines. Although when he did make sojourns back to Pattaya, they were always memorable, as Derelick only had two speeds. Fast and Super-Fast. Usually, he could be found in the Tahitian Queen, ensconced in the corner and surrounded by a bunch of cuties. Such was his popularity.

Not so "Super-Fast" in the TQ toilet, but a true hasher just the same.
Derelick was also co-founder of the Pattaya Dirt Road Hash which he established in 1985 along with The Pimp.
He established a reputation as a guy that liked to party and was well loved and known around the hashing community.

Derelick did have a major scare in January 2021, when he had a heart attack and did actually die in a Philippine hospital. The doctors did manage to save and resurrect him. Although he was well passed this traumatic incident, maybe, just maybe, he had used up all his nine lives.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family.
R.I.P. Derelick, you were a legend.
