Captain Kirk (RIP)
25 Apr 1959 to 20 May 2023
Capt Kirk has boldly gone.
Capt Kirk AKA Colin Geoffrey Frost (d. 20 May 2023 RIP) was born in Lowestoft (the most eastern point of England).
Colin's dad was the youngest colour sergeant in the Royal Marines in WW2 and a professional football player with Fulham after demob., latterly player/manager of Kings Lynn Town. His dad's soccer skills did not pass in the genes but his love of sport did.
One of the last local lads trained as a boiler maker, Capt Kirk followed a wandering star to Australia, Norway, Brunei, USA, Saudi, Kuwait, Philipines and Pattaya in technical roles as engineer no in power stations to large infrastructure and industrial construction projects often in the oil and gas field.
I believe he began hashing in Brunei and has done many hundreds of runs with different hashes plus attended Nash hashes and Interhashes around Asia and the globe.
He began hashing with PH3 and The Monkey H3 back about 15 +/- years ago when time allowed.
He loved a good trail and funny circle, admired competent GMs and entertaining RAs.
In Saudi where I first met him circa 2003, he stepped in where necessary to help and support the hash any way he could, even as stand in GM to get JUBAIL H3 500th run and camp out over the line.
After the camp out we were surprised by inquisitive Saudis who wanted selfies with the group. Capt Kirk realised his Bechtel truck should not be in the pictures as he wasn't allowed to drive south of the city limits. It was a sackable offence. He took the Saudi's camera (old skool) snapped a few pics for Abdullah, then accidentally opened the back of the camera. Classic!
In recent years he hasn't enjoyed the best of health but things were looking up. Until Saturday. A true hasher's passing in the best traditions. If you can't die on trail, then he managed the next best thing.
Onon Capt Kirk, the hashing universe awaits.
