The day finally arrived, V.V.’s day and re-union day for so many Monday hash veterans. There were a lot of us, at least 100 I would guess. One hundred Monday hash hared runs is no small feat so it was right to come along and help V.V. celebrate this remarkable day. Indeed, many people who have hared with V.V. over the years were lining up to hare with him today. In the end V.V. quite rightly chose his partner and wife and also long time friend Two Time to hare with him.
I arrived early for sign up and had tried to get to the a-site on the shorter route using the back roads. What a miserable failure that was but I did bump into a neatly laid out red coloured check in the process. Well that was good news to see that at least some of VV.’s trail still had it’s integrity in tact and it was a reminder that today was going to be dedicated to a special guy who has put so much effort into haring hash runs.
It was good to see local hash club rivalries put to one side and everyone come along and do what we all love to do! Most of us who run on all of the local hashes all started our Pattaya hashing right here on the Monday hash so it was very appropriate for this to be the club that V.V achieve this feat.
So what about the run today? Well mate, you did a nice job yet again. Nothing to worry about at all and your reputation as a good hare remains.
The trail started off along a dirt road going down and away from the airfield. We soon hit our first check (I remember that one!) and continued down to the next besides a paved road. It turned out to be a decent check actually as most people thought we would continue across the road and down. With the group beginning to gather, someone called On On to our left and off we went. We ended up following an elephant trail and in fact bumped into our first Elephant. Man, those things are huge. This particular beast was on the move and was carrying a couple of very friendly American girls who were busy waving to us all and crying out “hello” and “ run boys, run “. Of course Fini was in there like a shot. The good old days eh …. ?
Everything went smoothly until we hit a patch of land that had been recently burned. In fact it was still smolderingly hot and it was remarkable that some of the paper was still there. Incredible really, when you think about it! The trail then took us along very deep narrow paths through the bushes that the elephants had probably munched through.
We continued in an anti clockwise direction staying pretty much to elephant trails and of course we bumped into many more of them as they stood by, calmly watching us as we weave our way between them all. Unlike cattle that would have stampeded, the elephants didn’t seemed bothered by us at all !
We did hit a few more patches of land that had been burnt which is a shame really as I can imagine the original trail going through the long grass. Unfortunately it’s that time of the year when everything gets very dry and the Thai’s go out and do their thing !
So after around 40 minutes we get back to the a-site as a fairly large group and we all settle down and get ourselves comfortable and prepared for the next phase of the day.
As usual, Cabbage Queen and Flipper provided excellent food for those who required it and of course the beer truck was well stocked with the ‘liquid refreshment’ that we all take for granted (courtesy of Bottomless Pit and his partner).
The circle started off with the raffle which by the way seems to be getting bigger and bigger every week! Prizes ranged from microwave ovens to great big cuddly Teddy
Bears. Boy, things really are changing these days !
With that all done Hellboy brought V.V. into the circle and presented him with a special 100 hared run t-shirt and chair. Everyone knows the story about Yao Yao and his ‘chair’ and it was noticed that Yao Yao was probably a bit envious about V.V.’s new chair ! In fact a short time later poor Yao Yao found himself in a heap on the ground when his old chair collapsed !
Airhead took to the circle and brought in the hares V.V. and Two Time and asked V.V. if he had any words of wisdom and advice for those amongst us who may want to follow in his footsteps. For once, V.V. was completely lost for words. Probably overcome with emotion I guess! The RA’s took turns in the circle and included Scar with 2 t’s, Nahee Man, Fini, Hellboy, Pussy Snatcher and Bam Bam. Of course the theme of the circle was V.V. and all those who have hared with him in the past were brought in and put to the ice. Those V.V. co hares who are sadly no longer with us were remembered too: Bent Over Belgium, Sneak Out Sprout and Madame Claude.
Long time returnees such as Tadpole, Miss Chivas and Olive Oil were welcomed back and V.V. was presented with a ‘pink’ 100 hared run cake. Twinkle Dick also gave him a bottle of 100 pipers whiskey (nice touch). V.V. haring stories were told, some of them being well known and others not so well ! It would be fair to say that on this day, V.V. was lavished with attention and one has to appreciate all those involved for the extraordinary effort that went into making this a special day for him.
We had one naming today with Sir Arse Hopper’s lady being named Honey Bear and there were many people put on the ice for this or that (sorry I can’t read my own notes). After at least two hours, the circle was finally closed down with the sounds of the hash hymn echoing out into the night !
This was not the end of the day, we still had the party at Titty Twisters where a band had been specially laid on in addition to extra staff.
With no time to waste I packed up and left the a-site for the party. By the time we got there, the bus had arrived and lots of people were going in. Dropping off Miss Chivas and Olive Oil, and being a bit hot and sweaty, I decided to nip off home first for a quick shower. On return I found the bar in ‘party mood’ with the band playing good rock & roll music. Making myself comfortable on a very nice plush sofa I ordered my first beer and got into small talk with my good friends Cabbage Knievel and Cabbage Flaps.
So where the heck is V.V. ? after a few minutes he appeared along with Two Time and they were completely soaked. It seems to be a new tradition for V.V. to go swimming when he has a party these days! By this time the band were really getting into it and Flapsy (who was now drinking beer) got up with a few others and started dancing.
The party was in full swing then I begin to wonder where is V.V. again ? All his friends are here, more than 50 in fact. Far more people than had said they would come and way too much to provide food for us all. We were in the mood but where the heck is he? I looked everywhere but no sight of him. I was then told he had gone home !!! I suppose V.V. had possibly had a little too much beer but I and all his friends were a wee bit sad that he vanished without so much as bye or leave !
After giving some friends a ride home who unfortunately had to leave, I returned once again to the bar and had a chat with those few that had stayed on. They included Hulk, Scar, MC, Fingerless and Try A Fuck and one or two I have never met before. It was then that I found out that a fairly large group of people had come back to the pub from the run, drank hash beer and scoffed all of the free food as fast as they could before buggering off !
So there ended the day, a good a-site, a good run, fun circle and a good party at the Titty Twister that probably ended a bit too prematurely. Thanks V.V. and Two Time for your haring efforts and thanks to the hash mismanagement for all their efforts and of course Hellboy for going out of his way to lay on the party at presumably considerable personal expense. Hope to see you haring a good few more runs on the Monday hash V.V. Great job.
